League leaders Rhydymwyn came down to earth with a real bump following a real feisty affair at title challengers Venture who took a deserved 2-0 lead through Kevin Andrew Elms and a debut goal for Nathan Buckley but Rhyd were up for the fight and managed to get back on level terms through Stuart Hayes who weighed in with a double salvo which included a penalty. A rash and needless challenge cost the league leaders dearly as they conceded a 73rd minute penalty which was tucked away by Levi Roberts. There was a dramatic ending also with Rhyd squandering a late penalty which was superbly saved by Simon Roberts.

Corwen fought out a thrilling and entertaining 1-1 draw with Overton. The hosts took a deserved lead through Nathan Davies who opened his sides account with a stunning shot from the edge of the box but Overton deservedly took a point out of this encounter when Phil Huxley hammered home a punched Nathan Aldridge clearance. FC Cefn had a dream start against Brymbo whose keeper gift wrapped an opening for Nicky Williams to break the deadlock early on. Midfield general Stuart Thornley doubled their tally with Brymbo left to chase the game. Ian Oliver Davies put the game beyond reach so a late consolation goal from Rene Pinard was too little too late.
As predicted, Johnstown Youth got off the mark at long last and punished an inept display by Coedpoeth United 2-1. It was the visitors though that struck first through John Griffiths but Johnstown got back into the game through Chris Baddeley enabling Scott Pugh to add a winning goal with 15 minutes remaining.
Llay Welfare really do seem short on lady luck and they went down by the odd goal in five at home to Hawarden Rangers. Andy Watkin with a well executed freekick, Gary McConnell and Chris Evans bagged the Rangers goals with Welfare having a plucky fight back to 3-2 through Dan Parry and Eddie Maurice Jones.
Mold Alex were caught cold and went behind in the 2nd minute against Llangollen Town who scored direct from a Simon Williams corner. With less than half an hour gone Josh Langford doubled the visitors tally and they should have wrapped up this game up but efforts by Sam Mars and Ian Grindley were squandered.
Argoed still topping Division One and they had a comfortable 3-0 passage at Garden Village. Just a Simon Roberts strike separated them at the break but Marcus McGill and Andy Bingham sealed the points late in the second half.
Borras Park Albion continue to impress and they chalked up a 3-1 verdict at Penley. New kidon the block Barry Torrence netted twice and MAtty Rowlands added to their tally before Andy Watkin replied for the hosts.
Rest assured Saltney’s promotion is still in tact, they floored New Brighton and a Jake Gibbon’s hat-trick was supplemented with a Mathew Wintle strike as Saltney started 2012 in winning ways. Gibbons made a quick impact opening his sides account in the 4th minute and he doubled his personal account on the half hour mark following some good work by Marc Gunther. Matt Wintle stretched their lead and Gibbons sealed his treble with the last action of the opening half.
Castell Alun can live with the best on their day again exampled by their 4-2 victory at LEX XI. They made full use of the wind in the opening half and breezed into a 4-0 lead with Dave Bullough bagging a brace of goals and Rhys Williams and Mike Halley having LEX on their knees. LEX bucked up their ideas and did manage to pull 2 goals back through Owen Williams and Jamie Evans.
In the Reserves Division League Cup game, Castell Alun Colts had their dreams shattered by Venture who edged through 3-1 with strikes from Matt Woods, Danny Roberts and Barry Martin with Neil McGorian reducing the deficit.
In the league at this level, Chirk AAA’s thrashed hosts Cefn Druids 4-0 and their marksmen were Sean Morris(2), Matt Thompson and Tom Freeman.
In the match of the day clash at Afoneitha, Penycae and Airbus ended up sharing six goals and the points and netting all of the hosts goals was Tom Smith.
